Slice-and-Bake Butter Cookies Recipe

Get your oven ready for a standard recipe for rainbow-sprinkle-rolled Slice-and-Bake Butter Cookies.  


– 3 cups all-purpose flour – 1/2 teaspoon baking powder – 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt – 1 cup unsalted butter – 1 1/3 cups sugar – 2 large egg – 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract – Sprinkles, for coating (optional)

Sift flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Mix butter in a stand mixer basin using the paddle attachment for 2 minutes until smooth. Add sugar and beat 3 minutes until foamy.  

Step 1


Add vanilla to beaten eggs. Turn off mixer. Just combine flour.  Create dough logs from each half. Plastic-wrap each dough log and chill for an hour or week.   

Step 2

Sprinkle cold dough logs.  Pre-heat the oven to 350ºF and line two baking pans with parchment paper. Cut 1/4-inch log circles. Bake cookies 1" apart on pans. Freeze cookies 10 minutes.  

Step 3

Bake cookies 12–15 minutes to set. After 5 minutes on the baking sheet, cool biscuits on a wire rack. Slice and bake the second dough log.
