Sour Cream Chocolate Cupcakes Recipe

These delicious, rich, and chocolatey Sour Cream Chocolate Cupcakes will satisfy your chocolate cravings! You can't resist their decadence, made with two unusual components. Remember the buttercream icing!  


– 2 cups all-purpose flour – 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder – 1 teaspoon baking soda – 3/4 teaspoon baking powder – 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt – 3/4 cup unsalted butter, at room temp – 2 cups sugar – 3 large egg – 1/2 cup sour cream – 2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract – 1 cup whole milk or chocolate milk – 1 cup mini chocolate chip

Heat the oven to 350°F. Line two muffin tins with wrappers. Mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.  

Step 1


Cream butter and sugar in a stand mixer using the paddle attachment until frothy. Beat each egg as it is added. Beat in sour cream and vanilla.  

Step 2

Add milk and flour alternately in three steps. Mix in small chocolate chips. Fill each cupcake wrapper ¾ full with batter.   

Step 3

Bake cupcakes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean, 18–22 minutes. After 10 minutes in the pan, move the cupcakes to a rack to finish cooling.
