Delicious Waffle Tofu Recipe

Make waffle tofu with your waffle iron! The crispy outside and tender inside make it ideal for toppings, sauces, and garnishes! High-protein toast substitutes are great.

For the waffle tofu: – 1 (350g/ 12.3oz) block medium, firm, or extra-firm tofu, drained and cut into 4 square slice – 2 - 3 tablespoons cornstarch – spray oil For the sauce (optional, feel free to use any sauce or toppings you like): – 3 green onions, chopped – 2 tablespoon soy sauce – 1 tablespoon hoisin – 1 tablespoon sesame seeds – 2 teaspoons sesame oil – 1 teaspoon rice vinegar – 1 teaspoon chili garlic sauce or Sriracha

Place cornstarch in a large bowl. Coat each tofu slice in cornstarch and shake off excess.

Step 1

Warm your waffle maker. To avoid dry spots, generously oil each slice of tofu before adding it to the waffle iron.

Step 2

After lightly spraying the iron with more spray oil, layer the tofu slices. Close the waffle iron and place a heavy pan on top to compress the tofu.

Step 3

Let the tofu cook until lightly golden, checking every 5 minutes. It will take 10–20 minutes.

Step 4

Tofu is ready to eat after cooking! Try it like toast with avocado, sauces, or other toppings.

Step 5

Mix all spicy sesame scallion sauce ingredients in a medium bowl. Pour over waffle tofu.
